As we move into to Autumn we start to tidy up our gardens to get them winter ready, but in trimming back shrubs and trees and clearing piles of leaves our wildlife is losing valuable shelter. Adding some nestboxes to your space is a great way to provide some much needed shelter for Autumn and Winter for the birds and mammals around us. Adding boxes now allows them to get used to them in time for nesting season in the Spring too. Hedgehogs, will be looking for placing to spend the winter.

Well positioned boxes serve as shelters from both heat and cold at any time of year, even when birds are not nesting. So there is never a bad time to add some boxes to your outdoor space.

Owl boxes installed now might not get used until Spring, but it will give potential visitors the chance to find and become accustomed to the box before they begin mating. It is thought that about half the UK population of Barn Owls now nest in boxes.
